Golfing success begins with mastering the golf basics, you may not need golf instructors for your golf basics, but you may want them for various reasons. In short, when learning the basic golf swing, learn to turn. This allows your left shoulder to pass slightly under your chin, for right handed golfers.

Get A Grip

You can test out different types of clubs, determine which club length is best for you, get to know the different types of grips available and learn the difference between graphite and steel shafts. Grip the club with your fingers rather than your hands. A golf club has three components, the head, the shaft and the grip.

The position of your club face is greatly influenced by your grip. Stop trying to correct your golf swing by constantly hitting ball after ball trying to make every physical adjustment known to man within your golf swing itself and begin by using a fundamentally sound grip.

Golf Swing Series: Your Short Golf Shots – a Square Stance or an Open Stance?



Professionals advocate an open stance for the short golf shots. From 100 yards in to the pin. I have messed around with this over the years, not being able to make up my mind which is more successful for me.
You will either like or not like what I am about to say.

An open stance is when your feet and hips are set up along a line to the left of the target, while the club blade is directed directly towards the target.

When making such shots, you want your body movement reduced to a minimum. With most of your weight on your left foot for the duration of the shot.

Standing with an open stance will help you achieve this.

Also, an open stance will help you to hit from in to out with little thought about this aspect of the swing.
Your back swing will be more upright and you will have a steeper down swing resulting in a sharply descending blow which is just what is needed to pitch the ball in the way you want.

Have a look at this and experiment. However, there are no rules about how you should hit hour shots. If you are having better results with a square stance then please do not change.

All you want is to hit the ball in the air, have it land near the pin and stop.

If you are achieving this on a consistent basis, there is certainly no need to change anything.

You could be losing many yards from your drive by using cheap golf balls. Try a top-grade golf ball and add another 10 yards to your drive.

3. Getting the correct golf clubs

Are you using the correct golf clubs? Amateurs have these 3 main problems with their golf clubs:
Grip – Are the grips on your golf clubs the right size for you? A grip which causes you to hold the golf club too tightly or too loosely can cause you to slice or hook the ball, losing precious distance in your drive. More than one golfer has found his slice miraculously disappearing once he got the grips on his clubs correctly fitted. Length – Yes, length matters. Too long or too short, and your swing could be badly affected. In the past, picking the golf clubs with the right length shaft was a hit or miss affair. However, with modern technology, many golf shops are equipped with golf swing analyzers and can analyze your golf swing and suggest the best shaft length for your driver. Flexibility – The more flexible the shaft of your golf club, the more power you have on tap. Unfortunately, more flexibility also means more torque, which can lead to a slice or hook. If you find yourself suffering from a bad slice, you may want to test a driver with a stiffer shaft. Conversely, if your golf swing techniques are good and you consistently hit the ball straight, getting a driver with a more flexible shaft could give you more power in your swing and a an extra 10 yards in distance.

Using just one of these golf swing help tips could add 10 yards or more to your drive. Use all three and gain 30 yards.

Golf Pitching – Lower Your Golf Score Fast With Better Golf Pitching



It’s been estimated that 60% of golf shots are taken within 40 to 50 yards of the hole. But full, powerful drives are what everyone wants to develop.

Driving ranges are filled with golfers hammering away at the ball aiming at the far end of the range. The truth is that most golf games could be improved with some practice time spent on golf pitching.

One of the defining characteristics of a golf pitch is the high flight of the golf ball, followed by little or no roll. If there is an obstacle between you and the flag, a golf pitch is the best way to get over it.

Most golfers agree that golf pitching is more difficult to master than chipping. What you want to achieve with a golf pitch is a steeply angled trajectory and as little roll as possible when the ball lands.

Golf pitching is accomplished with a pitching wedge. A golf pitching swing is like a Reader’s Digest version of a full swing; that is, essentially the same but shorter.

You should still keep a regular swing rhythm. Practice your golf swing using a musical metronome or some other regular ticking device.

The golf pitching stance might feel strange until you’re comfortable with it. Imagine the line defined by the position of your feet and point it to the left of where you want to hit the ball.

This is called an open stance. But keep your shoulders parallel to your desired flight line. Adjust your stance so that the golf ball is centered. The length of your backswing will vary depending on the length of the shot.

Controlling distance is the key to mastering golf pitching. This starts with estimating how far away you are from the target.

The next step is controlling the shot so that you actually hit it that amount of distance.

Many professionals carry at least three different pitching wedges in their bag.They understand how crucial a good short game is to your round of golf.

Even if you have to give up some of your other clubs to stay within the rule book limits, it’s worth it to have additional pitching wedge options.

What if you need to pitch from the tall grass in the rough? Work on getting a steeper swing angle. By the way, it’s really difficult to get any backspin on the ball when your hitting from the rough, so target accordingly.

What’s the best way to get better golf pitching results? Make golf pitching a significant part of your practice routine. Practice will help you learn control and accuracy.
