Simple Golf Instruction

Many a new golfer needs professional help to learn how to swing properly. If you are a beginner who have just started taking simple golf instruction in order to learn how to swing the golf club correctly, your PGA Golf instructor could really help you with any questions or problems you may have regarding simple golf instruction.

If you’re seriously considering taking simple golf instruction , make sure you choose a PGA Qualified Professional Golf Instructor to help you with the initial steps. All PGA qualified professional golfers, go through a very hard and disciplined training. Generally it takes around three to four years of arduous training before they actually qualify to carry the title of Professional Golfer or Professional Golf Instructor. Under their guidance you will be introduced to a system of learning how to play the game properly right from the beginning.

Let us first discuss simple golf instruction about the swing . The basic fundamentals of golf swing normally include the following points- posture, grip, ball positioning and the distance you stand from the ball. Golf swing instruction will be much easier for you to enjoy, once you understood the importance of these four major points. Ideally, you should adopt a positioning of the left hand on the club with the left thumb placed slightly right of the centre of the grip. This allows the under arms to rotate naturally without disturbing the original position of the club face. You should not hold the club in the palm of your right hand. Rather, you make sure that the club is held in the fingers of your Right hand. Always be careful of putting your left thumb down the middle of the grip, because you may find your ball starts flying off to the right of your target. This happens because the under arms and the clubface are not aligned with each other. The ideal grip or hand placement is when the thumbs are positioned on opposite sides of the clubs grip.
Once you have got your hands placed correctly on the club, you will have to follow the simple golf instruction on how to move your hands, so that you can create correct angles to hit the ball properly. The hands work just like “hinges”. Basically, the left hand moves in vertical manner and the right hand moves more in a horizontal manner.

When it comes to golf swing, remember that the hands are the most important parts of the body. You really need to know how the hands work if you want to be good at this game. In general, the arms should control the shaft of the club while the hands should control the club head.
Now, lets discuss simple golf instruction about putting. As we know, putting is the final step in completing a hole in golf. Putting can make a lot of difference between a good round and a horrible round of golf. The right golf putting grip is very important. You may grip your club using a overlapping grip or a cross handed grip. Many golfers whose wrists usually bend as they hit the ball prefer the cross handed grip. Young golfers who have difficulty in keeping their hands and wrists steady during Putting will profit by using a long shafted Putter. While putting use your judgment to determine the force that with which you will putt your shot. Place your Putter about ten inches away from the ball. Take the Putter straight back from the ball and swing it straight through. Golf experts say this increases the chance of the Putt heading in the right direction.

Simple golf instruction , like any other golf instruction must be practiced, so get out there and have some fun practicing

Simplify Your Swing – Golf Swing Thoughts

Ok, you spend time on the range, you subscribe to all of the golf magazines, your golf library fills up the entire bookcase, you go to your local golf pro once a month or more, and you still can’t find any consistency with your golf game.

What is your problem?

You are being bombarded with too much information. You have 15 swing thoughts and your brain just can’t process all of them.

Let’s face it. There are many ways to swing a golf club. Turn on the tournament this weekend and count how many successful professionals DON’T swing the club the way you are being taught.

What is the golf swing? It’s hitting a little white ball with a club. Do you really need page after page and hour after hour of complicated instruction? The short answer…..no!

I will admit. After playing many of the popular sports for years, golf is definitely the hardest. Two swings that feel exactly the same can produce entirely different results. A good shot is usually followed by “Wow, what did I do there?” The last few years, I have been on a quest to improve my swing. Many say I have a nice looking swing, yet I routinely shoot in the 80s and 90s, sometimes close to a 100. My mind is filled with thoughts about my stance, my grip, my swing plane, my weight shift, my……ARGH!

I used to have a couple basic thoughts when playing golf.

Keep my head level (not completely still, just don’t stand up taller or dip down).

Let my weight transfer to my right leg (I am right handed) but bend that leg and let the tension build and go into the ground, not get on the outside.

Make solid contact. That’s it.

Years after changing my swing I can still revert back to my old technique. It is far from perfect, but produces a solidly struck golf ball and ok scores, without all of the stress.

So the question…….am I going to abandon all of the work over the last 5 years and go back to the old swing? No. But……..I am going to change my thought process. Most people who spend quite a bit of time playing golf know how to swing the club, and nobody knows your swing better than you do.

So my advice….Pick 1 or 2 things to think about when swinging the club. These thoughts don’t even have to be about anything specifically related to the swing, just something to keep you focused on the task at hand……..making good contact with the golf ball.

Don’t fill your mind with too much garbage. You have swung the club thousands of times. Your body knows what to do so let it….AND….when things go bad, just let it go. Don’t forget…golf is a game and meant to be fun.

Now You Can Know Where The Slot Is And How It Will Give You Magic In Your Golf Swing!

I can’t believe I have missed telling you all about this one very important golf instructional move.
I have skirted all around it for years now, but a real life experience has shown me that even the most often talked about golf swing move can be made to sound very complicated.

I want to un-complicate the ” magic move.” If you want to hit the golf ball with authority and maintain great angles through impact you have to do this one move correctly.

So here it is, it’s the SLOT.

It is the one place that the golf club absolutely must go in order to get a good path and angle of attack on the golf ball. It is what Harvey Penick talked about in his ” Little Red Book “

It’s what Ben Hogan wouldn’t talk about because of the wonderment of his great golf swing. And the pent up secrecy of his magic move. Kinda funny now.

It’s the SLOT.

First, let’s make sure we are 100% in agreement that there is never just one move in a golf swing that solves all the problems. There are a few moves that must be done in order to even think about improvement. This is one of those moves, please do not think that it will cure all. It won’t.

But, it will go a long ways to making sure you make one of the most important moves in the swing. If you can get the club in ” the slot” on your down swing you have an excellent chance of making great contact at impact. And the results will be truly amazing.

So here goes, pay attention. Explaining this is not going to easy. Making the move will be easier.

I was playing a round the other day and found that I just was not hitting the ball with that crisp solid feeling. The ball was not reacting well and I was off target some and it just didn’t feel right. I played like dog crap all day. I couldn’t wait to get to the range.

It took two days before I got to the range to deal with the swing. I often find that if some time goes by I will have not much to do to fix what is broke.

Not the case this time. Same thing. It just did not feel right. And the ball was still not reacting well at all.

I always go back to basics first. Grip, set-up, alignment, angles and so on.

Check, check, check !

Nothing! Now I’m worried. Poor contact lousy balance. Was that a shank? Ooooooh man !

Feelings ? Frustrated, worried, shocked and amazed, mad, confused, getting madder, more frustrated, I tell myself to get over it and get down to business, and I do, but not without still being very angry inside.

Since I feel that my backswing is always the same, I tend to look at the down move first.

I like to take it to the top and then slowly work the club into the various positions that I feel are very important to my ( and your ) golf swing. All the way to impact and then to finish.

SLOW ! And I do not hit a ball. I use it as a reminder as to where the club is supposed to go and where my body parts are supposed to be in concert with the club.

Suddenly, I notice that I could actually see the ” SLOT.”

WOW!

Maybe I need to both see it and feel it.

So I began to work on making sure that the club got into the slot. I used small swings, short backswing, into the slot and hit. I dropped my right elbow straight into the front of my turned right hip bone. Not behind it, rather in front of it, I actually tried to brush my elbow into that bone on the front of my right hip.

This works……….. and it fixed my condition for the moment.

So where is the slot, exactly?

Try this: get in a good set up position. Now draw an imaginary line from the front of the ball, back through the ball to your right ( not for lefties) and for however far you want the line to go.

You should be standing parallel to this line. That is your toes, your knees, your hips, and your chest and shoulders should be parallel to this line.

Can you visualize the line?

If you can, now take note of the relationship of your right hip and the line, and your right shoulder and the line. It is particularly important that you note the distance that now exists from the line to these body points.

Got it?

If you get this, you will note that there is near equal distance from the line to these body parts.

Now turn your right shoulder as if in a backswing, as you do this, your right hip will turn less than your shoulder but turn nevertheless.

Got it?

Now…………. Note the new distance from the line to your right shoulder and you right hip.

This new distance, the area between the line and your right hip and right shoulder while turned into the backswing is ” THE SLOT “

Now, to prove this to yourself, try this.

Take a set up position with a club like an 8 iron. Without bending your arms, pick the club up toward your chest, just use your hands only. Do not bend your arms up not one tiny bit. The club should be at near parallel to the ground.

It does not have to be perfect. But do not bend your arms.

Now turn your shoulders to the right as if in a backswing and let the club go with you. You should turn enough so that the club is still parallel to the ground and now parallel to the line.

Remember the line, right?

The location of the club now in this new position is ” THE SLOT”

The club must go through this exact position on your downswing, every single time from this point forward. Do what ever it takes to make sure it gets there.

Start with small swings, slow and deliberate. Check and double check.

Developing More Power in Your Golf Swing

How can you develop more power in your golf swing? This is probably a question that all of us want an answer to. Most of us go to great lengths to do whatever it takes to get that power into our drives off the tee. I think we probably all have some ideas of where 300-yard drives come from, but I want to give you the answers without any fluff.

Golf swing power is the result of three specific factors. Two out of the three are much more important, but the third does have a bearing on the outcome of how far you hit that ball.

The first and probably most evident of the three is your swing mechanics. I bet you are not surprised by this one.

The second one is probably the least recognized of the three, but for many is the key to longer drives and the category that is given the least amount of attention. Number two is what we term golf strength. This is defined as how well your body is conditioned (i.e. fitness) to swing a golf club with maximum power. Probably the least understood of the three, and maybe the most needed by golfers in general. We will talk more about this later. Let us move on to number three in regards to power for your drives.

Number three is your equipment. Yes, equipment does make a difference in how far you drive the ball. The equipment manufacturers have let this fact be known, and I bet we all have gone to the pro shop probably more than twice to pick up a new driver that claims to give us another 20 yards on every drive. That extra 20 yards might not be down the middle of the fairway, but it will give you an extra 20 yards could be left, could be right, or could be in the center of the fairway. That all depends on points one and two of this article. Equipment and technological advances have definitely lengthened the distance of our drives. But without better swing mechanics and your body in better golf shape, new technology will not help your game. A bad swing will produce a bad result, regardless of what type of new driver you may have just purchased.

Swing Mechanics

I think all of us are aware of how important the mechanics of a swing are when it comes to driving the ball down the fairway. It is essential, if you are over the top with your swing or come inside too much, youll see that dreaded slice or snap hook. The drives will be short, too low, too high, left, right, or a combination of these if you are putting bad swings on the ball.

It is essential for a golfer to work on the mechanics of their swing, week in and week out, to improve their game. If it werent important why would all these tour players have swing coaches that work with them on a consistent basis? The golf swing is such a finite, mechanically complex movement, that requires constant work to keep it highly efficient and in check.

One of the most common mistakes I see amateurs make is probably a lack of instruction. I see amateurs over and over at the driving ranges, week in and week out, pounding balls without any improvement. This, I feel, is a result of one of two things: 1) a lack of instruction or 2) low levels of golf strength. A lack of instruction leads to the development and ingraining of improper swing mechanics. This only results in slices, hooks, topping the ball, and hitting it fat on the course. And we all know that those types of swings lead to frustration and bad rounds of golf. I would suggest to most anyone to find a good instructor and take lessons on a consistent basis. This can only help your game in the long run. Now moving on the second point of how to achieve powerful drives and that is golf strength.

Golf Strength (Golf Fitness)

Golf strength is a term we use to describe the golf fitness level of an individual pertaining to swinging a club. This is much different than how much you can bench press or squat, which I like to refer to as weight room strength. Understand that these two terms, golf strength and weight room strength, are very different. If you do not quite understand the difference, ask yourself one question: How many bodybuilders do you see teeing it up on Tour? The answer to that question is quite obvious, none!

It comes down to this idea: the mechanics of a golf swing require specific levels of flexibility, balance, stability, strength, endurance, and power to perform it efficiently. If your body does not have the required capacities of the aforementioned list, then the result will be? Anyone want to guess? Well, let me give you the answer: a less than optimal and less efficient swing than possible. Essentially, your body supports your swing much like a foundation supports the house you build upon it. I am sure that all of you would choose to build a house on a stone foundation rather than a sand foundation, wouldnt you? I will say that many of you make a different choice when it comes to your golf swing. I quite often see amateurs developing their swing on a foundation of sand, not a good thing to do in my book.

Regardless of how much time you work on your swing mechanics, if your body does not have the golf strength to support your swing, you are limiting your potential. I have seen it numerous times, people practicing at the range who struggle, not because of trying to get better, but because their bodies are limiting what they can do with their swing. Quite often I see people with limited flexibility, poor balance capabilities, and low levels of strength and power. The bottom line is that your mechanics will not get better until you fix the body that swings the club!

Up to this point we have discussed the two most important ideas when it comes to power on the golf course. A review of the topics tells us that they are optimal swing mechanics and the proper levels of golf strength in the body. One without the other is going to leave you short when it comes to your potential in the game.

Again, I probably see point number two, golf strength, being addressed less often than swing mechanics when you get right down to it. The pros are all aware of the importance of golf strength, why not you?

Equipment

We have come to the final point, and that is equipment. I think the majority of golfers are aware of the technological advances that have occurred in golf equipment over the last 20 years. I mean, think about the 80s when we were still playing with woods that actually had wood club heads! Imagine that for a moment, and now we are using drivers with space age faces that shoot the ball off of them at warp speed. In addition, we have to mention the advances in terms of golf balls. How manufacturers design golf balls today makes a difference in how far they travel. What a lot of people do not realize is that the USGA has set standards on how hot driver faces can be and how fast balls can come off the face of drivers. Most clubs are reaching this limit, and anything past these USGA rules becomes illegal to play.

So what does that tell us?

1) Club manufacturers have done a great, and I mean great, job in the advancement of technology, and

2) to increase the distance on your drives you are now going to have to turn to points one and two of this article.

So what does improving your power really come down to?

It comes down to three simple ideas. Number one is improving your golf swing mechanics. Improved mechanics will improve your driving distance. Number two is improving your golf strength. By improving your body as it pertains to the golf swing you will improve your distance off the tee. Finally, equipment does make a difference, if you hit the ball correctly.

Want a Golf Swing Analysis? 5 Things You Need to Do

The golf swing has got to be something that just happens, without conscious thought. It is not a bunch of random parts and is way to fast to about think it. How much do you really know about swing a golf club? Confused by all of the different theories about the golf swing and just want to know what will work best for you? I’m guessing the answer is ‘yes’ and you will have to deal with the 5 things below if you want that new golf swing. They may seem obvious, but we all need to be reminded.

Golf Training Aids

What drills and training aids, if any, can help your swing? A golf training aid to help increase distance? Yes. A specific weight training program for golfers? Yes. Stretching for your golf swing, weight training for golfers, and keeping the swing fresh during the winter are all part of the training you will have to do to find the perfect swing.

Swing Simple, Swing Perfect

Most golfers are just looking for a simple way to swing the club that will get good, consistent results. Even the best instructors often overlook important biomechanical laws that can prevent injury and make swinging the golf club a simpler task. The simple secret of visualization and how this secret makes the swing automatic is something that is very interesting to look at when searching for the perfect swing.

Golf Practice Training: Put these 3 in the correct order and you will get ahead

You must be committed to plenty of practice. You know you can make a great practice swing, but why can’t you swing the same way when you hit the ball. If you can simplify the process into sets of routines that, practiced properly, give a clear mental picture to make the swing solid, consistent, and repeatable then you are on your way. The classic golf swing is grooved through practice. Therefore, the key to your success still is called: Practice, Practice, Practice.

Golf Pro Lessons

We pay all that money to play, take lessons and buy training aids, but we still fight our faults. When you’re a beginning golfer getting the right golf tips or lessons to improve your game is critical. Todays technology allows you to experience live golf lessons on your personal computer. Benefit from excellent, detailed video golf lessons, live golf lessons and swing analysis right on your computer.

Golf Teaching Professionals

Instruction can be the missing link if you have a good teaching pro. The majority of professional golfers works as club pros or teaching professionals, and only competes in local competitions. Once people have mastered the “essentials” of a good full swing and are confident with their ball striking, then they may want to work on other parts of the game: Teaching the short game, specialty shots, mental toughness and good course management. PGA professionals go through a tremendous amount of continuing education programs to stay up on the latest teaching techniques.

The golf swing and not the club is the true culprit behind high handicaps. It is probably the single most important aspect of achieving a good game. Are you open to looking at golf and your swing from a different point of view? It’s important to develop the perfect swing around the students capabilities to determine what is the most efficient way for the student to swing the golf club.

There are many options to help you improve. Please don’t get overwhelmed. Pick ONE AT A TIME, stick with it and you will see results.
