Buying The Best Golf Club Set

What should you look for in a set of golf clubs? How do I know which set is best for me and my current abilities? What about getting clubs custom made for my size and level of strength? These are just some of the questions you should be asking yourself before you decide to go out and buy a new set of golf clubs. After all this can mean the difference between seeing an improvement in your game or indeed a decline. Which one would you prefer?

Golf Clubs – Woods

How do you know which type of would you need for your game? Well if you are a beginner to the game of golf, you need to look for woods that have a more flat face. The reason for this is because a flat face will increase the likelihood of your ball going straighter down the fairway. This however will also mean that you will be sacrificing distance for overall accuracy. If you have been playing for quite some time now, a better option would be finding a wood that is more curved and therefore has a stronger “sweet spot”. This will increase the distance of your shots, but reduce the accuracy.

Golf Clubs – The Driver

Should I use the driver for all of my tee shots on par 4′s and par 5′s? For a beginner, having a type of golf club like the driver in your bag usually in more of a hindrance than a help. Why? Because when starting out in golf people should focus more on accuracy than overall distance. Just because you can drive 300 yards doesn’t mean you should do it all the time. Beginners should start by using the 5 or 3 wood initially for all their drives as they tend to be more accurate. Take this into consideration next time you head down for a round at your local golf club.

Golf Clubs – Irons

How can I tell the difference between a good iron and a bad one? There are two main things you should look for in an iron. One, the amount of grooves on the face and two, the size of the sweet spot on the back of the face. The amount of grooves on the face will determine the level of spin you are able to produce. Some golfers prefer to have less grooves because they feel they can get more distance, but I prefer to choose control above anything else. In actual fact you should not have to worry about distance so much so because if you find a set of golf clubs that contain a strong and central sweet spot, this will be an automatic thing.

Golf Clubs – The Putter

There are three different types of putters: the normal grip putter, the belly putter and the broomstick putter. Most people tend to go for the normal putter as this is the most easiest to learn initially. However many people who have learnt how to use the belly putter and the broomstick putter have had much success. The only thing that matters is “what works best for you”. Try testing them all out. You never know, it might be the missing ingredient in your game!

Do You Believe That Golf Instruction Can Make You a Better Player? Yes and Here’s How!

Over the past two years or so, I have spent tons of time and effort trying to learn how to show golfers, through the power of the pen, how to get in touch with their golf swings. How golf instruction should lead them to a conclusion that you can develop a useful, repeatable, and affective golf swing using the golf tips and online golf instruction, here on the EzineArticles site and in other areas of the internet.

It’s a great resource. Golf instruction is not an easy task. It is especially not easy while using just words. Not one word of golf instruction should be left up to the imagination. So that makes it tough to get across intricate points of golf instruction.

The grip, for example. It is one of the easiest aspects of the golf swing to get exactly right. There is absolutely not a single motion associated with getting a good grip. But, yet it is very difficult to describe the correct grip using just words. I see so many bad grips out on the range and on the courses, its incredible. And, yet, these people have an expectation of playing decent golf with these poor grips.

Not happening.

And that is where the challenge comes in.

I have been lucky so far.

I get emails from around the world from golfers who have got some real use out of some of the golf swing instruction that I have been able to provide.

Keep them coming folks.

It is through much of this response that I get ideas as to what parts of the golf swing are the most bothersome, I learn from you all, what it is that is most often spoken about in the golf instruction that actually helps you with your golf swings.

The one thing that people keep telling me is that my articles that deal with angles are the most instructive. They have apparently made a difference in lot’s of golf swing out there. To me, that is great news. It means that some of this stuff is actually getting applied. It’s so different not ever seeing a result, like I would on a driving range. Golf instruction is best suited for a visual feedback and not a verbal one. Overcoming that objective has been the challenge.

So… let me take a minute to talk about the angles that you must have to create power and accuracy in your golf swing. And we’ll add a little drill to help cement the concept for you.

First a thought for you to always remember. Angles are power…power is distance… no angles ..no power… no power no distance. And in golf instruction, angles are created, they don’t happen automatically. So while while it might be nice to have a golf tip that included a statement that you must have certain angles to create power, you must know HOW TO CREATE THEM. And even more important is that you must know how to KEEP THE ANGLES.

A while ago, I wrote what I thought was a great article on ” LAG” what it is and how to create it.

Lag is nothing more than a great angle. Created on the backswing and maintained or increased on the downswing.

Watch Sergio Garcia and you will see tremendous ” LAG” created on his downswing.

How does he do that?

Here is how: your right wrist must be pushed bent back toward your right forearm. It is often referred to as the Trayed Position. As if you were holding a tray of dirty dishes on your way back to the kitchen. Like a waiter.

The Trayed Position

Try it. Bend your right arm so that it is at 90 degrees. Now just bend you right hand straight back toward your right forearm.

Look at that position. See that it is supporting a golf club with the hand “under” not on the side of the club while at the top of the swing.

Believe it or not… this is the glue that holds a good golf swing together. This one angle creates other angles that are essential to a repeatable golf swing. Golf instruction rarely pays much attention to this or to the other created angles. I do and it is because we all should try to do as much right as possible in every swing that we take. This trayed position is the one thing that all good players have in common. Great players do several other things as well… but let’s just face it , we are not destined to become great players. But listen to this… there is no reason why you all cannot be very good players.

I must tell you that it will be impossible to get into this all important trayed position if you have a crappy grip.. so fix the grip.

The idea of an early bend in the right wrist is an excellent concept and I endorse it fully. It is a move that you can make and then forget about it. Then you are sure that you have created the one angle that is vital to your repeating swing.

So during the first stage of your move away, push against your left thumb with the pad of your right hand. Just a gentle but firm push will start the bending of the right wrist. Then turn to the finish of your backswing with this angle in tact.

Now the hard part… you must maintain this angle for as long as you possible can. The evidence of this being done is at the impact position. And here is the evidence that convinces you that you have created and kept this angle.

“Your hands beat the clubhead to the ball” that’s right. Your hands are ahead of the clubhead at impact.

Do this and you will soon be a “player”

Start this with the minnie swing drill.

Set up with a short iron, create the right wrist angle early and turn into a small backswing. And now just turn back to the ball making sure your hands are ahead of the ball at impact.

A small move nothing big. But do it until you can feel the correct move to the ball with the angle in tact.

This is a powerful move and creates a very straight and accurate trajectory. Pro like, is the best description.

Golf Carts Get Street Legal

Initially gaining popularity with elite golfers in the 50s and 60s, golf carts are now making their way into all sorts of unlikely places. Employees in airports, warehouses, movie sets and resorts have all gotten mobile with golf carts over the past decade. Residents of careless communities and tropical islands have been using them on the sly as a cheap way of getting from a to b for years. But perhaps one of the most surprising places to find golf carts these days is on the streets of America.

Deeply contrary to the culture of speed, golf carts and the people who drive them are demanding a piece of the road for themselves – and they’re getting it. In many ways the timing is absolutely right.

Designed to travel at a leisurely pace and run on electricity, golf carts leave a significantly smaller ecological footprint than the average vehicle. The first electric vehicle available to consumers, golf carts are compact and cheap to run, quiet, easy to drive and non-polluting. They’re also painfully slow. Most golf carts top out at speeds of 15 mph with the pedal to the metal. But if you’ve got time to get to where you’re going, what’s the problem?

Many communities have simply connected the dots between their warm weather, a preponderance of golf courses and retirees, and the sheer efficiency of these vehicles by building roads and pathways dedicated just to them. Much like bike lanes in other cities, golf cart lanes are showing up in communities all over Florida, Arizona and California.

According to a new york times article, golf cart sales to individuals have doubled over the last 10 years, a phenomenon largely due to a change in US legislation. Ever since the National Highway Traffic Safety administration allowed “low speed vehicles” such as golf carts, to travel up to 25 mph on roads with speed limits up tp 35 mph in 1998, golf carts have been slowly moving off the golf course and into people’s garages.

Of course, you have to pimp your ride before you’re legal. Road worthy carts have to be outfitted with seat belts, windshields, turn signals and brake lights before they can legally tear up the asphalt.

In 1999, Rancho Mirage CA was one of the first American cities to make Golf Carts part of the municipal scene when the city adopted a program allowing drivers to travel the streets in their carts. The city has designated golf cart lanes and paths that traverse the downtown area and skirt the entrances to some of the most exclusive designer golf courses and country clubs in America. Carrying golf clubs, groceries and purse dogs, residents cruise roads named after the icons that invented this glamorous slow-moving golf life: Bob Hope, Gerald Ford, Ginger Rogers, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra. With scarves streaming in the slow desert breeze, this is SoCal at it’s finest.

The city is no stranger to the ways of the golf cart. The Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage is said to be the first place to ever see a powered vehicle on the fairway. In the 1950s, the likes of Desi Arnez and Bing Crosby were wheeling around the Thunderbird greens in the first 3 wheeled electric golf carts Americans had ever seen. To have the modern cousins of these early vehicles taking over the streets of Rancho Mirage 60 years later is not really surprising. Some would wonder what took them so long.

Some Of The Best Golf Training Drills To Help Improve Your Golf Swing

If you are like many golfers, you want to improve your driver golf swing. Though many players may not be aware of how they can do this. Consider using some drills to enhance your already good drive golf swing, to a great one that will help you take some strokes off of your score. Practice drills are designed to help a player improve their swing and learn the game of golf.

What are golf drills?

Many golf drills are designed to allow the player to conduct a series of exercises all focusing on one specific skill or attribute in the game of golf. The drills are generally conducted in a different way than an actual golf game is conducted, therefore the player may view the drills as out of place or odd looking. Drills only have the results of improving the game of golf, not playing the game of golf.

The following are a few drill methods that you can use to improve your personal golf swing:

The Easy Driver Drill

This drill is a classic one; simply go to your favorite driving range. Hitting the 150 flag is the only goal you should have in your mind. By using this drill, in no time flat, you will find your golf swing has improved dramatically.

The Hip Turn Drill

This drill can be used with any type of club. The drill is designed to create alignment of the hip and sometimes golfers use it as a gimmick trick shot.

To conduct this drill, swing the driver with one arm and keep your body square at all times. You may look a little out of place or odd to other players, but who is developing their hip rotation and who is not? Proper hip rotation is crucial in the game of golf.

Give no Quarter Drill

Another drill that may leave you feeling a little silly, but works nevertheless is the Give No Quarter Drill. This drill works well in developing the swing on all clubs. This drill has the sole purpose of helping you develop balance in your swing. Here is how it works; you would put a quarter on the foot of your lead leg, prior to swinging. The whole objective is to maintain the quarter on your foot during your swings. If you have bad balance, the quarter falls off. If the quarter remains, your balance is looking good.

By implementing and practicing these drills, you will find that your good driver golf swing, turns into a great one in very little time.

Repowering Golf Carts Using A Rebuild Kit – The Cost-Saving Choice

Golf course managers know that having well trimmed and well cared for green ways is one of the marks of having a successful course. There are many things that a golf course or facilities manager is going to have to be responsible for as they maintain the facilities for the golf course, and some of the main aspects are making sure that golfers enjoy the time there, the course is pretty, kept up and well maintained, and that all of the facilities look the same. As golf course equipment undergoes normal wear and tear, it might be tempting to get rid of older truckster, mower and cart equipment when the small engine’s productivity deteriorates. Though it may seem that getting rid of these things and buying new ones is the right solution for the good of the course, repowering the small engine using an engine rebuild kit may save you money and time in the long-run.

Golf course facilities manager know that funding for new grounds equipment can be hard to come by at times. Investing in new equipment that is heavily worked may not be an option for smaller courses. It is unlikely that a golf cart or truckster used for hauling equipment can be easily replaced with a brand new piece of equipment with without much discussion and consideration. By repowering the equipment (using a rebuild kit to replace a faulty engine with a newer, better suited small engine) managers are able to improve the productivity of their existing carts and mowers while not needing to request large amounts of funds to keep the course in perfect shape.

The rebuild and re-power kits that you can find online can help you do many things. First of all, they are both repair and upgrade kits for golf cart small engines and the golf course trucksters small engines. The small engine rebuild kit can also help you do something as equally important, which is improve the performance of these engines. By fixing the ones that break and improving the performance of the ones that are not broken but are in need of performance repair, you can help make sure that you never have to replace a small engine again. It may seem like a large undertaking to replace the small engine in one of these vehicles. With a proper repower rebuild kit, the instructions are very clear and concise and the necessary parts are included and spelled out in detail, making the process much easier than one would anticipate.

Why is it important to make sure that you never have to purchase another golf cart or course mower in the next twenty years? First of all, these are expensive items that are a significant investment to simply replace. Also, as a golf cart or other golf course equipment begin to experience engine problems, their fuel efficiency and productivity waivers. This can cost more in the long-run.

There are rebuild kits that are available to you online and along with detailed information on installation, benefits and features. Repowering these small engines is a great way to extend the life of course equipment without breaking the bank.
