4 Steps to the Right Golf Grip



All golfers want the best performance out of the golf tournament. Thats all depending on their golf grip. Tiger Woods, Nancy Lopez, Ben Hogan, and the other professional golfers have worked on their grips. A bad golf grip may not enable a golfer make good golf swing and this is why every golfer-beginners and pros need to make good use of the grip tips to help them lower their scores.

To get the right grip, it is advisable that the practicing golfer will always work on every method learnt from the golf grip steps. Ok, check it out:

1. Ensure that the golf club is held with your right hand. Your left hand should naturally hang from your shoulder and your hand maintained down on the side of the golf grip. While doing these, the left hand should slightly turn inwards towards the golfer body.

2. Left hand should be brought forward from its hanging position and placed against the golf club grip. While doing these, the shaft should shaft of the club should run from thicker pad of the palm and proceed diagonally downwards. It is recommended that it should run about 6mm from the base of the index finger to the middle joint of the index finger.

3. A golfer shouldn’t grip the golf club tightly to ensure that no excess pressure is applied on the grip. The golf club grip should not be like a person squeezing out something out of the club. The thumb should be placed on top of the golf grip towards the center as the golfer look down. The left thumb should not be pushed far towards the bottom of the club grip. The feeling of a solid grasp on the club will prevent the thumb from supporting the club during backswing.

4. Bring the right hand incase of the right-handed golfers from its normal position and place the club into the fingers. The right thumb and the index should form a sort of prompt around the club. Let the little finger be rested on the groove formed by the first and the second fingers of the left hand.

How to Fix Your Slice – Part 3



Swinging the ball too steep makes it far too difficult for your hands to have the ability to turn over. This also means you will be unable to turn over and square your club with the impact of the ball.

If you have a very steep plane in your swing and the tendency to slice the ball because of this then you can fix it. This type of swing is a natural consequence from things that force you to hit downward. Don’t hit the ball downward. That is what causes the slice.

If you are a golfer that swings the club straight up and then straight down it will cause you to block the open face. This is because you will reverse rotate through the impact. The importance is to swing the club around the body as if you are swinging a baseball club.

You might even pretend you are swinging a baseball club outward. Now, take your club and pretend your baseball is down on the ground. You are only changing the swing plane when you swing the club versus the baseball bat. Many instructors will teach you this and you can try it. This is a good technique for amateur golfers to try because it really helps.

The shoulder tilt is another thing that can cause you to slice the ball. If you have an embarrassing slice then you need to look at the way you are moving your shoulders. The problem is not stemming from your arms moving up and down. This is a common mistake people think when they try to correct it.

When a shoulder tilt occurs the body is not tilting and not turning as it is supposed to be. Your arms have nothing to do with it. In order to correct a shoulder tilt you want to swing your arms around your body.

How To Swing A Golf Club – Get A Perfect Golf Swing

Perfecting a golf swing not only enables you to hit longer distance but also become more accurate in your swing.

The first thing that you need to learn in order to swing a golf club in the proper way is the posture of your body. Just be sure that the shaft of the golf club is moving forward when you hit the ball. The reason is that the shaft would have a direct impact on the ball, and would make you move in the proper way.

After you have measured your impact, you need to follow through with a swing. It really doesnt matter how far you have swung the shaft, all it takes is that you need to follow the rhythm of your swing.

How to Develop More Power in your Golf Swing



How can you develop more power in your golf swing? This is probably a question that all of us want an answer to. Most of us go to great lengths to do whatever it takes to get that “power” into our drives off the tee. I think we probably all have some ideas of where 300-yard drives come from, but I want to give you the answers without any “fluff.”Golf swing power is the result of three specific factors. Two out of the three are much more important, but the third does have a bearing on the outcome of how far you hit that ball.The first and probably most evident of the three is your swing mechanics. I bet you are not surprised by this one.The second one is probably the least recognized of the three, but for many is the “key” to longer drives and the category that is given the least amount of attention. Number two is what we term golf strength. This is defined as how well your body is conditioned (i.e. fitness) to swing a golf club with maximum power. Probably the least understood of the three, and maybe the most needed by golfers in general. We will talk more about this later. Let us move on to number three in regards to power for your drives.Number three is your equipment. Yes, equipment does make a difference in how far you drive the ball. The equipment manufacturers have let this fact be known, and I bet we all have gone to the pro shop probably more than twice to pick up a new driver that claims to give us another 20 yards on every drive. That extra 20 yards might not be down the middle of the fairway, but it will give you an extra 20 yards… could be left, could be right, or could be in the center of the fairway. That all depends on points one and two of this article. Equipment and technological advances have definitely lengthened the distance of our drives. But without better swing mechanics and your body in better golf shape, new technology will not help your game. A bad swing will produce a bad result, regardless of what type of “new” driver you may have just purchased.Swing MechanicsI think all of us are aware of how important the mechanics of a swing are when it comes to driving the ball down the fairway. It is essential, if you are over the top with your swing or come inside too much, you’ll see that dreaded slice or snap hook. The drives will be short, too low, too high, left, right, or a combination of these if you are putting bad swings on the ball.It is essential for a golfer to work on the mechanics of their swing, week in and week out, to improve their game. If it weren’t important why would all these tour players have swing coaches that work with them on a consistent basis? The golf swing is such a finite, mechanically complex movement, that requires constant work to keep it highly efficient and in check.One of the most common mistakes I see amateurs make is probably a lack of instruction. I see amateurs over and over at the driving ranges, week in and week out, pounding balls without any improvement. This, I feel, is a result of one of two things: 1) a lack of instruction or 2) low levels of golf strength. A lack of instruction leads to the development and ingraining of improper swing mechanics. This only results in slices, hooks, topping the ball, and hitting it fat on the course. And we all know that those types of swings lead to frustration and bad rounds of golf. I would suggest to most anyone to find a good instructor and take lessons on a consistent basis. This can only help your game in the long run. Now moving on the second point of how to achieve powerful drives and that is golf strength.Golf Strength (Golf Fitness)Golf strength is a term we use to describe the golf fitness level of an individual pertaining to swinging a club. This is much different than how much you can bench press or squat, which I like to refer to as “weight room strength.” Understand that these two terms, golf strength and weight room strength, are very different. If you do not quite understand the difference, ask yourself one question: How many bodybuilders do you see teeing it up on Tour? The answer to that question is quite obvious, none!It comes down to this idea: the mechanics of a golf swing require specific levels of flexibility, balance, stability, strength, endurance, and power to perform it efficiently. If your body does not have the required capacities of the aforementioned list, then the result will be? Anyone want to guess? Well, let me give you the answer: a less than optimal and less efficient swing than possible. Essentially, your body supports your swing much like a foundation supports the house you build upon it. I am sure that all of you would choose to build a house on a stone foundation rather than a sand foundation, wouldn’t you? I will say that many of you make a different choice when it comes to your golf swing. I quite often see amateurs developing their swing on a “foundation of sand,” not a good thing to do in my book.Regardless of how much time you work on your swing mechanics, if your body does not have the “golf strength” to support your swing, you are limiting your potential. I have seen it numerous times, people practicing at the range who struggle, not because of trying to get better, but because their bodies are limiting what they can do with their swing. Quite often I see people with limited flexibility, poor balance capabilities, and low levels of strength and power. The bottom line is that your mechanics will not get better until you fix the body that swings the club!Up to this point we have discussed the two most important ideas when it comes to power on the golf course. A review of the topics tells us that they are optimal swing mechanics and the proper levels of “golf strength” in the body. One without the other is going to leave you short when it comes to your potential in the game.Again, I probably see point number two, golf strength, being addressed less often than swing mechanics when you get right down to it. The pros are all aware of the importance of golf strength, why not you?EquipmentWe have come to the final point, and that is equipment. I think the majority of golfers are aware of the technological advances that have occurred in golf equipment over the last 20 years. I mean, think about the ’80′s when we were still playing with woods that actually had wood club heads! Imagine that for a moment, and now we are using drivers with space age faces that shoot the ball off of them at warp speed. In addition, we have to mention the advances in terms of golf balls. How manufacturers design golf balls today makes a difference in how far they travel. What a lot of people do not realize is that the USGA has set standards on how “hot” driver faces can be and how “fast” balls can come off the face of drivers. Most clubs are reaching this limit, and anything past these USGA rules becomes illegal to play. So what does that tell us? 1) Club manufacturers have done a great, and I mean great, job in the advancement of technology, and 2) to increase the distance on your drives you are now going to have to turn to points one and two of this article.So what does improving your power really come down to?It comes down to three simple ideas. Number one is improving your golf swing mechanics. Improved mechanics will improve your driving distance. Number two is improving your golf strength. By improving your body as it pertains to the golf swing you will improve your distance off the tee. Finally, equipment does make a difference, if you hit the ball correctly.

Miracle Hybrid Clubs Will Lower Your Golf Score



Many golfers struggle with the long irons as they are notoriously hard to hit. As a result many amateurs choose to shun them and give up a few shots in a round. But recent golf technology developments may well have solved this problem. Introducing the hybrid club a.k.a utility club a.k.a recovery club. This club has been revolutionising the game and if you’ve ever seen a golfer without his or her long irons in their bag then the chances are that they are using these instead. Lets have a look at exactly what they are and how they can help you lower your scores.

The term hybrid comes from the fact that the club combines the design of both the fairway woods and the irons.The shaft length is similar to an iron and the head is a cross between the fairway woods and the irons.

The key point to this club is that it is supposed to be easier to hit than a long iron without giving up distance. Sound good to you?

The design of the club head is such that there is a low centre of gravity. This has the effect of helping increase the height of the ball and reduces mishits. With the shaft being shorter than the fairway woods there is a greater element of control.However, you do get the benefit of forgiveness in the club similar to the woods so you are still able to generate distances equal to or greater than the long irons.For example, a well hit Hybrid 3 should play as long as a 2 iron. Add in the fact that the hybrid shot tends to land soft all comes together to produce a fantastic weapon to have in your bag.

Within the hybrid club range you also get 2 distinct types. One has a head which is more iron like and the other type has a head which is more fairway wood like. This caters to different types of player – it is generally accepted that the fairway wood type head is more suited to the less advanced amateur. You can also choose between graphite or steel shafts. Steel tends to be cheaper and heavier. The weight promotes greater control. The graphite shaft is lighter so is easier to generate club head speed – it is advisable for newer players or those with slow swing speeds to use this type of shaft to help increase distance.

The Hybrid should be treated as if it is an iron so you should swing accordingly (i.e hit down on the club in contrast to sweeping the ball as per a fairway wood/driver swing).

But it also has other uses. It holds its own off the tee, is a great option off the fairway for that long second shot (where you may have previously lost yardage by not using a long iron) and comes into

its own in the rough or bad lies. The reason for this last point is that the sole of the club is fatter but has a narrow face which is ideal for skimming through grass without getting caught up. This fact alone could revolutionise a high handicapper’s game. It can even be used to chip around the green as the loft of the head varies between 15 to 21 degrees.

Ask around at your golf club and you will be surprised at how many converts there are. Its certainly the case that many now leave their 3,4 and even 5 iron at home with a set of hybrids as their welcome replacement. Such is the many uses of the club you may find that you end up using it far more than any other club in your bag!
