    poor takeaway are dramatically effected when the club is in your hand. try the takeaway without a club and see how simple it is. we spend to much energy in trying to manipulate the club

    It’s very difficult to make changes in any golf swing. IMO you need to identify what the cause is for not bringing the club back square to the target. I find that its because I start the backswing too quickly, with my shoulders, causing me to take the clubhead too far inside. To correct this, i’m trying to feel what is almost two movements; arms in one connected movement then rotate the shoulders.

    This is a good tip. Maybe not explained in the best way possible but there are many other videos that show how it should be done. I was taught this by a co-worker, and it definitely helped improve my consistency.

    The reason this drill is not a great drill is because the hips turn to early in the backswing. If you can remember that and keep the hips more quiet early in the back swing then it is a good drill for keeping the hands quiet in the takeaway. This instructor has already fully turned his hips and the club is only 33% of the way back.

    Then you simply rotate your shoulders till the top of your backswing.. and then you make something called a downswing!

    I do this drill alot as I bent my right elbow too early on the takeaway, and my shoulders do not rotate enough.

    I was taught to set my wrist early and that already puts you in the position that you show on this video. I play to a 10 and I use to do it this way but not anymore.

    Excellent drill… and the instruction is explicit in that it should be done only to hip height… work great IMO.

    Hands are pre-set by grip if body rotates properly hands and forearms work almost as shown

    I’m a +1 who has been working a lot on my takeaway this summer due to somehow getting in the habit of rolling over to much at the takeaway. Just my 2 cents, good drill though! It elminates the hands taking over and manipulating the takeaway.

    While I like the drill a lot. I feel it should be stressed to newer players that at a certain point to keep the clubhead square the wrists need to hinge up and down properly. If you stay to stiff and “connected” too long. You’ll have that head closed during the takeaway.
